My creative process is usually driven by the individuals I am working with, music and a mix of the movies I love. To me, choreography is like painting. It is creating images over and over again. It is about color and composition but also in movement it is often about falling and relating and hopefully finding some risk and serendipity. I try to leave room for choice making for the dancers so that performing any work I make will be an endless creative conversation between them and myself. I want every work to be textured and indulgent and satisfying in some way for each dancer even when that seems at odds with making anything sometimes.

Currently, I strive to be a better story teller. For me, a lot of dance can be too dramatic, so there is a sweet spot where maybe if the setting is thoughtful and curated and we know who and where and what we are, then movement is all I need to say to describe a situation and relationship. To be honest though, the process of making dance is generally for me and the dancers involved. It’s just an important part of being a live, like making soup from your own garden and looking at the stars.
